The Prediction Paradox: Limited Reflexivity (Axiom A6)

Predict a bank will fail. Depositors panic, withdraw their money, and the bank collapses. Did you predict the failure—or cause it? Now imagine the opposite: predict a pandemic, governments prepare, containment works, and the catastrophe is averted. Your prediction was “wrong”—but was it failure or success? This is the paradox of social prediction. Unlike atoms or weather systems, humans read predictions and respond to them.
Reflexivity Is Real—But Limited
Axiom A6 makes a crucial claim: while predictions do affect outcomes, this effect is bounded and patterned, not infinite or random. The formula X(t+) = X(t-) + G(P(E)) captures this—the system shifts by function G when prediction P is published, but G has limits. Not everyone receives predictions, not everyone responds, and responses often cancel out.
