1. WHAT CMH CANNOT DO

A. It Cannot Predict Singularities

A “singularity” is an event so rare and transformative that it changes the rules of the system itself.

Examples:

  • The invention of nuclear weapons (changed war forever)
  • The rise of artificial general intelligence (could rewrite society)
  • First contact with extraterrestrial intelligence

These are outside the model’s physics.
CMH assumes human nature and social rules remain stable. Singularities break that assumption.

B. It Cannot Predict Individual Actions

CMH works on populations ≥ 10 million people.
It cannot tell you:

  • Who will win the next election
  • Whether a specific leader will be assassinated
  • What you will do next Tuesday

It is a science of clouds, not droplets.

C. It Cannot Be Fully Transparent and Fully Accurate at the Same Time

  • People may panic or exploit it (self-fulfilling prophecy).
  • Leaders may suppress it (self-defeating prophecy).

Therefore, some CMH insights must remain:

  • Private (to trusted, ethical bodies)
  • Vague (e.g., “rising tensions in Region X” instead of “revolution on July 4”)
  • Probabilistic (always expressed as “may,” “could,” “chance”)

D. It Cannot Replace Human Judgment

CMH outputs probabilities, not decisions.
A leader must still ask:

  • Is a 30% risk worth a costly intervention?
  • Do we trust the model’s assumptions?
  • What do our values tell us?

CMH informs wisdom; it is not wisdom itself.


2. THE DANGERS OF MISUSE

Like any powerful tool, CMH can be weaponized:
